Irene B. Tank, age 88, formerly of Columbus, Nebraska Irene B. Tank went to be with her Lord and Savior on December 1, 2007 in Temple, Texas due to natural causes. Funeral Services are 10:30 a.m. Friday, December 7, 2007 at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church in Columbus with Reverend Tom Weisbecker officiating. Visitation is after 5:00 p.m. Thursday with a 5:00 p.m. C.D.A. Rosary and a 7:00 p.m. Vigil Service at McKown Funeral Home. Visitation continues Friday morning from 8:00 - 10:00 a.m. also at the funeral home. Burial is in the St. Bonaventure Cemetery.
Irene B. Tank was born March 3, 1919 in Harlan, Iowa to Henry and Mary Thraen. A vibrant and talented young lady, she graduated from Harlan High School in 1936 and received her teaching certificate from the state of Iowa in 1937.
Irene met and married the love of her life, Gaillard B. Tank, on January 27, 1938. They found a happy and successful life in Columbus after relocating there in 1953. Irene practiced as medical technologist at St. Mary's Hospital and Columbus Community Hospital for 30 years before retiring in 1984. As well as being a long-time member of St. Bonaventure' Catholic Church and Catholic Daughters, she enjoyed golf, volunteering with Meals on Wheels, Food Pantry and the Simon House, and was a avid bridge player.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Mary Thraen, four brothers, five sisters and her loving husband of 60 years, Gaillard B. Tank. Irene is survived by the pride of her life, her five children: Madge (Packy) Young of Temple, Texas; Rod (Sue) Tank of Carmel, Indiana; Barb (Brian) Nelson of Rockford, Illinois; Brad (Alexandra) Tank of North Canton, Ohio; and Joni (Jim) Pheigaru of Katy, Texas; 11 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her two remaining sisters: Clara Inman of Iowa and Mary Ryterske of Wisconsin.
