Jacob C. Pocwierz age 80 of Columbus, died Monday; October, 6, 2003 at his home in Columbus. Funeral services are 10:30 a.m. Friday; October 10, 2003 at St. Bonaventure Church in Columbus. The Rev. Mark Bridgman will officiate. Burial with military honors by American Legion Hartman Post #84 Honor Guard will be in the All Saints Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday 4-8 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. vigil services at the McKown Funeral Home. Visitation will continue Friday morning 8:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home.
Jacob Casmer Pocwierz was born October 28, 1922 in Stanton, Virginia to Casmer and Bertha (Keller) Pocwierz. He attended school in Brooklyn, New York and received his G.E.D. at Fort Benjamin, Indiana. He served in the U.S. Army in WWII and the Korean Conflict from 1941 - 1964 receiving the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart. Following his discharge from the service, Jacob worked at Behlen Manufacturing for 20 years until retiring in 1985. He was a member of the St. Bonaventure Church, Hartman Post #84 American Legion, and the V.F.W. #3704.
