Jimmie Peters, 58, of Columbus died Monday, May 15, 2006 at Immanuel Hospital in Omaha after a short illness. Funeral Services are 10:00 am Friday, May 19 at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Silver Creek with the Rev. Frank Jindra officiating. Visitation is from 4-7 pm Thursday at McKown Funeral Home in Columbus with a 7 pm Vigil service, also at the funeral home in Columbus. Visitation continues Friday morning from 9 am until service time at St. Lawrence Church in Silver Creek. Interment is in St. Lawrence Cemetery with military honors by Hartman Post #84 American Legion Honor Guard.
Jimmie L. Peters was born June 20, 1947 in Central City, NE to Everett and Edith (Sawyers) Peters. He married Joan Koza on August 5, 1967 at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Silver Creek. Jimmie served in the US Navy from May of 1967 until March of 1971 on the USS Perry and USS Goodrich and also served in the US Army Reserve. He worked as a law enforcement officer in the cities of Columbus & Madison and in the Nance & Boone County Sheriff Departments. Jimmie was a member of Hartman Post #84 American Legion where he served as Commander in 1975 and had previously served on the honor guard. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.
