Orville W. Oberg age 84 of Columbus died Friday; April 15, 2005 at the Columbus Community Hospital. Funeral services are 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 19, 2005 at the First United Methodist Church in Columbus. The Rev. Bill Ritter will officiate. Burial with military honors by American Legion Hartman Post #84 Honor Guard will be in the Roselawn Cemetery. Visitation is Monday 5-7 p.m. at the McKown Funeral Home and Tuesday 9:30 a.m. until service time at church.
Orville Warren Oberg was born October 16, 1920 in Fremont, Nebraska to George and Nora (Wild) Oberg. He was raised in the Schuyler area. He received his high school education in Schuyler. Orville graduated from Midland College in 1942. He entered the United States Navy in 1942 and served until January 29, 1946. He was married to Luta Meddles on October 7, 1945 in Hastings, Nebraska. He returned to Columbus where he operated Oberg Hatchery. He also owned and operated the A&W for 8 years, and was an owner/broker for American Homes Realty. He was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Columbus having served as superintendent of Sunday School and as head usher, American Legion, a volunteer fireman, Chamber of Commerce-past state president, Nebraska Poultry Association and past president of the Lions Club.
