Gerald L. "Chris" Brandt, age 81 of Columbus died Friday, March 28, 2008 at the Columbus Community Hospital. Funeral services are 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 31, 2008 at St. Anthony Catholic Church. The Rev. Del Lape will officiate. Burial will be in the All Saints Cemetery. Visitation is Sunday 4-7 p.m. at the McKown Funeral Home. There will be a 7:00 p.m. Sunday evening vigil at the McKown Funeral Home. Visitation will continue Monday morning 8-10 a.m. at the funeral home.
Gerald Lee Brandt was born May 5, 1926 in Archer, Nebraska to David and Wilma (Ronzo) Brandt. He moved to Columbus at a young age. He attended schools in Columbus and graduated from Kramer High School in 1944. He married Anna Lewis on June 23, 1955 in Humphrey, Nebraska. Shortly after graduation he went to work for Drew's Tire in Columbus. For the next 42 years he worked as the bookkeeper and eventually co-owner/manager. He also worked at Joe & Al's Grocery for 2 years and Industrial Engineering until retiring in 2002. He liked watching sports on TV, especially Husker Football. In the earlier years he enjoyed bowling, playing pool and card games with family and friends.
