In Memory of Robert L. Schmid

Robert L. Schmid, age 86, of Bellwood, Nebraska died Monday, May 14, 2007 at the Columbus Community Hospital.  Funeral Services are 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 18, 2007 at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Bellwood with Reverend Scott M. Courtney officiating.  Visitation is 3:00 - 6:00 p.m. Thursday with a 5:00 p.m. Vigil Service at St. Peter's Church in Bellwood.  Visitation continues Friday morning from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. also at the church.  Burial is in the Ss. Peter & Mary Cemetery with Military Honors by the Laverne Schmit American Legion Post #327 Honor Guard. 

Robert L. Schmid was born March 7, 1921 on the family farm southwest of Bellwood, NE to Rudolph and Agnes (Schirer) Schmid. He went to District #36 School and graduated from Kramer High School in 1939. Robert farmed with his father until he joined the Army/Air Force in 1942 where he was stationed in Orlando, FL. When Robert came home on furlo he married Viola Eller May 25, 1943 at Presentation Catholic Church near Bellwood. The couple made their home in Orlando. After his discharge in 1943 Robert farmed in the Bellwood area until retiring and moving to Bellwood in 2000. He was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church and the Laverne Schmit American Legion Post #327.
