Frances Liebig

 

Frances Mary Liebig, 93, of Columbus died Saturday, October 14, 2006 at Beverly Health Care in Columbus.  Mass of Christian Burial is 10:00 am Wednesday, October 18 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Platte Center.  Visitation is after 5 pm Tuesday at St. Joseph Church with a Vigil Service at 7 pm, also at the church.  Visitation continues Wednesday morning from 9-10 am at the church.  Interment is in Ss. Patrick/Joseph Cemetery. The family suggests memorials to  St. Joseph Church.

Frances Mary Liebig was born August 26, 1913, in Lindsay, NE to John and Pauline (Schmitt) Schaecher, the twelfth child in a family of fourteen.  She received her education at Holy Family School in Lindsay where she learned English, as German was the language spoken at her home.  They moved to a farm near Platte Center in 1928.

On August 29, 1933, she married John J. Liebig at Saint Joseph’s Church in Platte Center, NE.  They farmed in the Platte Center area until John’s death in 1989.  She was a typical farm wife helping her husband run the farming operation.  She was a wonderful homemaker and mother to her children as well as a loyal friend to everyone she met.

She was a faithful member of Saint Joseph’s Parish, holding various church offices.  She was a member of Saint Ann’s Christian Mothers.  She enjoyed playing the piano, singing, dancing, playing cards and socializing with others. 

She is survived by:

Daughter: Norma (Ray) Beckman

Daughter-in-law: Mary (Mike) Liebig-Agostine, all of Columbus:

28 Great-Grandchildren

Sister: Clare (Carl) Hassenstab of Omaha.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John, on March 16, 1989,  son, Richard, on October 30, 1991,  and her parents, as well as the  following siblings: Christina (Killian) Korth, Henry Schaecher, Helen (William) Kurtenbach, George (Mary) Schaecher, Tony, Matilda (Edward) German, Elizabeth (Victor) German, Killian (Helen) Schaecher, Katherine (Joseph) Ternus, John (Helen) Schaecher, Rose (Edward) Dohmen and Mary (John) Mottles.
