Herschel Beveridge called me this morning to let me know of the news. I have many fond memories of visiting with Don in Herschel's office during planning times through the years. He was always a knowledgeable conversationalist and had a keen sense of humor. I also remember and appreciate Doug's help for the wrestling team when Duane Skiles, Ron Christiansen and I were coaching at NPHS. He was a dedicated student manager and fun to be around. I enjoyed my visits at the Columbus office with Don when he would come to scrape your windows or start your car, so that you would have a safe drive home. I always loved walking down the hall to your office and seeing a beautiful bouquet of flowers on your table, that Don and sent for you. I remember the cold Saturday last winter when you and I were in the office to supervise a visit, and right along with you... was Don. He was a great friend and helped my mother out whenever needed, when one of us boys couldn't make it over to her house for all the little fix-it jobs, Don could be counted on.
