William Fredrick August Gaedeke, Jr., died at his home in Silver Creek on June 8, 2006 at the age of 83. Memorial Services are 2:00 pm Monday June 12, 2006 at McKown Funeral Home in Columbus. The Rev. Bill Ritter will officiate. There will be Military Honors by Hartman Post #84 American Legion Honor Guard. The family will receive friends on Monday from 1:00 pm until service time at McKown Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer's Association.
William was born October 31, 1922 at his
home in Silver Creek, Nebraska to William Sr. and Minnie (Auman) Gaedeke.
He graduated from Silver Creek High School in 1940. He entered the US
Navy in 1944. William served during World War II and was stationed at
Okinawa in the South Pacific. He was honorably discharged in 1946. He
was a lifetime resident of Silver Creek.
William married Bernice Christensen on March
17, 1946 at Grand Island, NE. They lived on the farm south of Silver
Creek. He was a farmer and also worked at Columbus Metal Industries
until his retirement. William was a member of the United Methodist
Church in Silver Creek, William Wolf Legion Post #91 in Osceola, and the
Caballeros Horse Club. He enjoyed farming, gardening, raising
horses and miniature horses, and his dogs. On December 26, 1971, he married Mardyne Jones of Lincoln at Las Vegas, NV.
