Irene Gasper, 84, of Columbus died Sunday, January 30, 2005 at Beverly Health Care in Columbus. Funeral services are 10:30 am Wednesday at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church in Columbus. Visitation is on Tuesday from 4-7 pm at McKown Funeral Home with a Vigil service at 7 pm, also at the funeral home. Visitation continues Wednesday morning from 8-10 am at McKown Funeral Home. Interment is in St. Mary's Cemetery in David City.
Irene Louise DeBaecke was born on
June 16, 1920 in David City, NE. Her parents were Julius DeBaecke and
Julia M. Svoboda. Irene started grade school near David City, and in
1926 the family moved to Bethune, Colorado. In 1937 the family moved
back to NE and lived in the Brainard and David City area. Irene
graduated from David City High School in 1938. Irene was married
November 30, 1939 to Gilbert T. Theewen at Our Lady of Perpetual Help
Church in Goodland, Kansas. They lived in David City and Irene did
housework for various families in the David City area. In 1958 they
moved to Columbus and Irene worked at B-D's until her retirement in
1983. Gilbert T. Theewen died April 24, 1986. On April 7,
1990 Irene married Gilbert V. Gasper at St. Isidore Church in Columbus.
Gilbert V. Gasper died April 26, 1991. Irene resided at Edgewood Vista
from September 2002 until December 2004, and Beverly Healthcare since December 26, 2004.
She was a member of St. Bonaventure Church where she was involved in
Perpetual Adoration and her neighborhood rosary group. She enjoyed
working in her yard, gardening, polka music, and dancing.
