Eugene Oliver Kleckner, 65, of Monroe died Sunday, February 22, 2004 at his home outside Monroe. Funeral services are 1:30 pm Wednesday, February 25, 2004 at McKown Funeral Home in Columbus with the Rev. William Effa officiating. Visitation is on Tuesday from 4-8 pm at McKown Funeral Home. Interment is in Roselawn Memorial Cemetery with Military Honors by Hartman Post #84 American Legion Honor Guard. Eugene Oliver Kleckner was born June 29, 1938 in Bassett, Nebraska to Oliver Albert & Mardell Hazel (Doty) Kleckner. Gene grew up and lived in several areas before entering the US Army after high school. Gene served during the Vietnam War from 1961-1966, earning the Vietnam Service Medal and the Vietnam Campaign Medal. After his discharge he lived in California before moving to Schuyler in 1976 where he worked at Schuyler Pack. He moved north of Columbus and worked for the Platte County Highway Department for 17 years before retiring in 1993. He also drove truck for ATI and Plant Land Nursery.
