In Memory of Vernie Sokol

Vernie Sokol, 93, of Platte Center died Friday, December 17, 2004 at Columbus Community Hospital.  Funeral services are 10:00 am Monday, December 20, 2004 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Platte Center.  Visitation is from 3-5 pm Sunday at McKown Funeral Home & continues after 6 pm at St. Joseph's Church in Platte Center.  There will be a Vigil service at 7:00 pm Sunday, also at the church.  Visitation continues Monday morning from 9 am until service time at the church.  Burial is in Ss. Patrick/Joseph Cemetery in rural Platte Center.

Vernie Jarecki was born July 2, 1911 to Andrew and Josephine (Sumovich) Jarecki. She attended school in rural Duncan and St. Stanislaus parochial school. She married Edward J Sokol on September 4, 1932 at St Stanislaus Catholic Church in Duncan, NE. They farmed at Fullerton, St. Edward and Platte Center., Vernie was a longtime Y-Knot cafe employee and was a well known pie maker. She was a charter member of the Oakleaf Extension Club, member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Past Presidents Club, St. Ann's Sodality and St. Joseph Catholic Church.
