Darlien Iwan

 

Darlien K.  Iwan, age 79 of Duncan died Tuesday; October 28, 2003 at Bryan LGH East in Lincoln. Funeral services are 10:30 a.m. Friday; October 31, 2003 at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Duncan. The Rev. Joseph A. Miksch will officiate. Visitation will be Thursday after 5:00 p.m. at the church with a 7:00 p.m. vigil service. Visitation will continue Friday morning 9:30 a.m. until service time at church. Military honors will be be conducted by American Legion Hartman Post #84 Honor Guard. Following the services, Darlien's body will be donated to the State Anatomical Board and Creighton University for research.

Darlien Iwan was born February 24, 1924 in Low Wassie, Missouri to Adam and Helen (Goc) Karges. At the age of 9 months she moved to Columbus, Nebraska. She graduated from St. Bonaventure High School in Columbus in 1942. She entered the United States Navy during World War II and served from March 28, 1945 until July 24, 1946. During her time in the service she marched at President Roosevelt's funeral and worked on the Manhattan Project in Washington, D.C. She married Edward Iwan on May 24, 1948 at St. Stanislaus Church in Duncan. Along with raising her family she worked at Dale Electronics for 27 years as a printer and material handler. She was a member of St. Stanislaus Church in Duncan where she taught CCD. Darlien was a member of St. Anne's Sodality where she served as president for several years. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America where she served as Regent. She was a member of American Legion Hartman Post #84 and the Platte County Historical Society. Her hobbies included quilting, arrowhead hunting, fishing with her husband, antiquing, playing cards, making pies and candy, and loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Sister-in-law Lucille Karges of Duncan, NE
Sister-in-law Frances Kropatch of Pierce, NE
Sister-in-law Helen Shefcyk of Lincoln, NE
9  grandchildren  and 6 great granddaughters
 

She was preceded in death by her parents 2 brothers: Donald and Raphael and 1 granddaughter Elizabeth Iwan.

Memorials are suggested to Platte County Historical Society.
