Ferd Edward Liebig, 90, of Platte Center died Monday February 4, 2002 at Columbus Community Hospital. Services are 10:30 am on Friday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Platte Center with the Rev. Rod Kneifl officiating. Visitation will be on Thursday from 3-5 pm at McKown Funeral Home and after 6 pm at St. Joseph Church with a Vigil service at 7 pm. Visitation will continue on Friday from 9:30 am until service time at the church. Burial will be in Ss. Patrick/Joseph Cemetery. Ferd Edward Liebig was born September 22, 1911 in Platte County to Adolph & Mary (Schumacher) Liebig. He was raised in Platte Center where he attended St. Joseph School. He married Germaine Bender on January 10, 1940 at St. Francis Church in Humphrey. He was a farmer, self-employed truck driver, and worked side by side with his brother at Liebig Meat Processing He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Platte Center, 3rd Degree member of the Knights of Columbus in Platte Center, 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus in Columbus. He served as trustee on the St. Joseph School Board, District 4 school board, was a member of the Elks Club, and the Lions Club in Platte Center and Monroe. He was a lifelong Democrat, enjoyed playing cards, the race track and going to the casinos. He was a past member of the Silver Spur Saddle Club and enjoyed riding, breaking, and training horses. He lived life to the fullest and found strength in his faith, family, and friends.
